Orbiana Denarius

Orbiana Denarius, wife of Severus Alexander (Emperor AD 222-235), minted at Rome circa AD 226, RIC 319, RSC 1,  3.37 gms, Obverse:  draped bust of Orbiana facing right, wearing a stephane in her hair, SALL BARBIA ORBIANA AVG, Reverse:  Concordia seated left, holding a patera in her outstretched right hand and cradling two cornucopiae in her left arm, CONCORDIA AVGG, very lustrous coin with just the tiniest touch of attractive toning, a fetching and pretty portrait of Orbiana in very (very!) high relief, detailed Concordia on the reverse, and full and clear legends on both sides, just a jewel of an example of the denarius of this beautiful and ill-fated empress, graded Mint State by the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it, and a real gem with one of the cutest portraits of Orbiana I’ve ever seen, but that’s my opinion, Asking price:  $1,450 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (see shipping information page)

Aurelian Antoninianus, Emperor AD 270-275, minted at Rome, or is it Serdica?  Rome:  RIC 62 (with P in exergue), RSC 154.  Serdica:  RIC 279 (with P in exergue), RSC 145.  23.11 mm, 4.09 gms, Obverse:  radiate and cuirassed bust of Aurelian facing right, IMP AVRELIANVS AVG, Reverse:  Sol standing left rasing his right hand and holding a globe in his left palm behind him, two captives at his feet, one of whom he is treading upon, ORIENS AVG, P in exergue, a gorgeous coin graded Mint State by the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it, with full silvering that is toned and lovely, a superlative portrait of Aurelian, detailed Sol and devices on the reverse, and full and clear legends on both sides, full circles on both sides and perfectly struck with the exception of the G in AVG on the reverse not quite fully struck up, a real beauty indeed, Asking price:  $375 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (see shipping information page)

Caracalla Denarius, Emperor AD 198-217, minted at Rome AD 206-207, RIC 170, RSC 622,  2.69 gms, Obverse:  laureate bust of Caracalla facing right, ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, Reverse:  Victory in a biga right, holding the reins and a whip, VICTORIAE above, AVGG below, a very lustrous coin well centered and struck with a superlative portrait in high relief of Caracalla, more clementine and reflective that we are used to seeing him, a detailed Victory and biga on the reverse which captures the movement of the galloping horses in wonderful detail, full and clear legends on both sides, a very scarce/rare issue for Caracalla graded Near Mint State by the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it, a gorgeous coin, Asking price:  $785 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (see shipping information page)

Hadrian Denarius, Emperor AD 117-138, minted at Rome AD 123, RIC 80, RSC 1120, 3.40 gms, Obverse:  laureate bust of Hadrian facing right, slight drapery on his left shoulder, IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG, Reverse:  Aequitas standing half-left, her head turned left, holding her scales in her right hand and cradling a cornucopia in her left arm, PM TR P COS III, a very lustrous coin with just the slightest hint of subdued and even toning, just a touch and very attractive, a superlative and sharp portrait of Hadrian in very high relief, a sharp and detailed Aequitas on the reverse, and full and clear legends on both sides, a well struck coin and well centered (with the exception of the very first letters of the obverse legend and the CO in COS in the reverse legend slightly off the flan), this is one very, very lovely coin. “Every detail in place, not a trace of wear, as good as these get”, thus and so noted, and graded Mint State, by the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it (my photography, especially of the reverse, does not do the coin justice), a beauty indeed, Asking price:  $890 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (see shipping information page)
