Macrinus Denarius, Emperor AD 217-218, minted at Rome AD 217, RIC 62, RSC 19,  3.11 gms, Obverse:  laureate and cuirassed bust of Macrinus facing right, IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG, Reverse:  Felicitas standing half-left, her head turned left, holding a short caduceus in her right hand and a long vertical scepter in her left arm, FELICTAS TEMPORVM, a very lustrous coin very well struck and centered with a fabulous and sharp portrait of Macrinus in high relief and in one of his more clean-cut and tonsored depictions very early in his short imperial career, a sharp and detailed Felicitas on the reverse, and full and clear legends on both sides, a quite scarce issue for Macrinus and graded Near Mint State by the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it, a beautiful coin and from my researches an exceptional example of this issue of Macrinus’s, Asking price:  $885 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (please see shipping information page)

macrinus-fides.jpgmacrinus-fides-militvm-rev.jpg000_3998.jpg000_3997.jpg000_3996.jpg000_3994.jpg000_3993.jpg000_3990.jpg000_3989.jpgMacrinus Denarius, Emperor AD 217-218, struck at Rome, RIC 67, RSC 23,  19 mm, 3.27 gms, Obverse:  laureate and cuirassed bust of Macrinus facing right, IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG, Reverse:  Fides standing facing, her head turned right, her right foot resting on a helmet, and holding a standard in each of her hands, FIDES MILITVM, very lustrous coin, superb and sharp with a capital S portrait of Macrinus, incredibly detailed and sharp Fides and devices on the reverse, full and clear legends on both sides, a well struck and centered coin that is just a beauty, the coin is holdered (slabbed) by NGC, and I know many collectors’ feelings run high concerning the holdering of coins, and I happen personally to prefer coins that are not slabbed.  NGC grades this coin Choice About Uncirculated, and I think the photos bear out the truth of this grade.  By the way, coins are easily and safely removed from these holders.  The numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased this coin remarks of it:  “Choice AU, with a superbly detailed portrait of the finest style, mounted in NGC holder with a designation of 4/5 for Strike and 5/5 for Surface.  A superlative coin!”  I concur wholeheartedly, and this coin is an exceptional example of this issue of Macrinus’s.  Asking price:  $1,150 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (please see shipping information page)
