Julia Domna Denarius, wife of Septimius Severus (Emperor AD 193-211), minted at Rome AD 196-211, RIC 572, RSC 150, 18 x 20 mm, 3.2 gms, Obverse:  draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, IVLIA AVGVSTA, Reverse:  Pietas standing half-left, wearing a veil, sprinkling incense over a lighted altar, holding a box in her left hand, PIETAS AVGG, a very lustrous coin with just a tiny touch of attractive toning, a sharp and lovely portrait of the empress, a detailed Pietas and devices on the reverse, and full and clear legends on both sides, a well centered and struck coin, sharp and attractive, Asking price:  $130 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (see shipping information page)

Julia Domna Denarius, wife of Septimius Severus (Emperor AD 193-211), struck at Rome AD 211-217, RIC 388c, RSC 212, 20 mm, 2.5 gms, Obverse:  draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, with her hair, well, for me the style and skill it took for that are beyond any words of mine, IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG, Reverse:  Venus seated left on a throne, her right hand extended and her left holding a long scepter, VENVS GENETRIX, a very lustrous coin with just the tiniest hint of attractive toning, a boldly superb and sharp portrait of Julia with her beautifully detailed hair, detailed Venus on the reverse and full and clear legends on both sides, well centered and struck on a large flan and a lovely coin, Asking price:  $215 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries (see shipping information page)

Julia Domna Denarius, wife of Septimius Severus (Emperor AD 193-211), minted at Rome, RIC 577, RSC 174,  3.02 gms, Obverse:  draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, her hair elaborately woven, IVLIA AVGVSTA, Reverse:  Isis standing right wearing a peaked head-dress (polos), her foot resting on a prow, and holding her baby son Horus on her knee, who is nursing at her breast, behind her is a rudder resting against an altar, SAECVLI FELICITAS, very lustrous coin, an absolutely and no less than superb and sharp portrait of the empress, detailed Isis and Horus and devices on the reverse, full and clear legends on both sides, just a jewel of a coin with incredible and sharp detail, a well struck and centered coin that is rated at least scarce, and Julia’s portrait is just gorgeous and makes her into quite the fox on this coin, from my researches an exceptional example of this issue for Julia Domna, Asking price:  $375 includes priority shipping and insurance, registered to other countries (please see shipping information page)

Julia Domna Denarius, Augusta AD 193-217, powerhouse wife of Septimius Severus, and holder of a number of luminous titles including Mater Augustorum and Mater Castrorum, mother of the emperors Caracalla and Geta (whew!), struck at Rome AD 211-217 under Caracalla, RIC-IV-I-391-C, 19.4 mm, 2.51 gms, Obverse: draped bust of Julia Domna facing right with her waved hair coiled at back, IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG, Reverse: Vesta seated left, holding a simpulum and a scepter, VESTA, lustrous coin, more so on the obverse, superb portrait of the empress, very detailed reverse right down to the simpulum (ladle), full and sharp inscriptions on both sides of the coin, the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it grades it Choice VF and states of it: “Well centered and struck with light toning on reverse. Struck to commemorate the restoration of the Temple of Vesta in the Forum. Nice.”  And this was when Choice VF denoted a VERY nice coin!  A lovely coin indeed in its obverse luster and reverse light toning, Asking price: $195 includes priority shipping and insurance

AD 193-217, struck at Rome AD 211-217, RIC-IV- I-390-C, Van Meter 55/2, 19.1 mm, 3.59 gms, Obverse: draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, with hair elaborately waved in ridges and turned up low at the back, IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG, Reverse: Vesta standing left, holding a palladium and a scepter, VESTA, very lustrous coin with just the tiniest bit of attractive toning, the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased this coin and who grades it EF remarks of it: “Basically a ‘mint state’ example with a bold portrait and polished fields. Some small removable encrustations are present on the reverse. Wonderful eye appeal.” I wholeheartedly concur, and truly a lovely coin, incredible hair style on the empress, the encrustations mentioned are, to me, imperceptible in hand, and personally I would definitely not recommend removing them anyway (you’d need some real magnification to attempt it!), and they do not detract from the coin in hand at all in my opinion, a superb gem of a coin, especially pin sharp in hand, Asking price: $365 includes priority shipping and insurance

Julia Domna Denarius, AD 196-211, RIC S564, RSC-123, Van Meter 34/1, Obverse: draped bust of Julia Domna facing right, IVLIA AVGVSTA, Reverse: Cybele seated left on a throne, leaning on a drum and holding a branch and scepter, and flanked by two lions, MATER DEVM, a lustrous coin with light and very attractive toning, a superb and sharp portrait of the empress, a very detailed reverse, full and sharp legends on both sides of the coin, a superb and lovely coin that is well centered and struck, a scarce coin and an exceptional specimen of it to boot, and graded EF by the numismatist/dealer from whom I purchased it, Asking price: $465 includes priority shipping and insurance in the U.S., registered to other countries
